Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy at Blue Ash Veterinary Hospital in Cincinnati, OH
What is laser therapy?
Laser therapy is a gentle, noninvasive treatment that reduces pain and inflammation while accelerating the body’s natural healing processes. It’s a trusted, drug-free option used in both human and veterinary medicine—and it’s quickly becoming a standard part of comprehensive care.
At Blue Ash Veterinary Hospital, we use a specialized handpiece to deliver therapeutic infrared light directly to the treatment area. This light penetrates fur, skin, and tissue to reach damaged cells deep within the body, making it effective for both surface wounds and internal injuries.
The magic behind laser therapy lies in photobiomodulation (PBM)—a process that stimulates the mitochondria (the “powerhouses” of the cell) in damaged tissues. This encourages cells to regenerate and return to peak function, helping your pet heal faster. Best of all, healthy cells aren’t affected, so it’s safe and highly targeted.
Laser therapy can complement your pet’s current treatment plan and may even reduce the need for pain medications.
What can I expect during treatment?
Laser therapy sessions are quick, painless, and relaxing for pets. There’s no need to clip or shave fur, and most pets find the experience calming. Your pet will be comfortably positioned for the session and may wear protective eyewear (“doggles”). If you stay with your pet during treatment, we’ll provide protective glasses for you, too.
Each session lasts about 5–10 minutes, depending on the area and condition being treated. Many pets feel a gentle warmth from the laser and become so relaxed they fall asleep!
